Let The Past Be The Past
Poof, be gone already!!!
Stop creeping into my life
I regret a lot of stuff I've done in the past
But I'm not going to write this twice
I'm going to bury my paste now
Look past the mistakes I've made
Sure there are still many mistakes to come
But today is the day
That I stop trying to make friends with people
Who judge me by my past
Who expects me to be perfect
Like there's no dirt in their trash
Well, to that I say kiss my ass
My past is in my past
And if you can't see me for who I am today
Then our friendship would have never last
Sure, I was the kinda cat that would rob you in your sleep
Look you right in your eyes, and let lies flow straight through my teeth
I'd twist the truth to get paid
Elaborate I little to get laid
But I'm tired of regretting
What I did back in the day
No background check will make me feel guilty
Or make my hands sweat or jittery
As I check no on the application question asking about a felony
There are to many young brothas like me
Who feel defeated before they have a chance
So the only time I'll mention my past
Is to show them they can
Be successful with a record
Start their own when doors are closed
Teach them to let their past go
Cause even like all those
Who told these brothas no
They too have a past
Things they've done and regret
Things they wished they could take back
Things they just can't forget
So I'm going to put it out there now
Yea, I've done a lot of crazy things
Took what wasn't mines
Seen things I probably shouldn't have seen
But despite all of that
I've learned from my past
And the ultimate way to make up for my dirt
Is to teach those to try and avoid the past I had
Cause one thing people forget to remember
When they look into your past
Is we all had a clean record at one point
But somebody just happened to catch my ass
So let the past be the past!!!
